401k Company Matching Question.......?

Curently I am making $2089.00 before tax a month and contributing 3% a pay check to my companies 401k. Can someone expain the following. Are they matching anything of mine right now, and if not how much will they match me. I'm new to this 401k stuff, and am really trying to understand it. What does it mean by contribution before tax?

Currently, XYZ will match 100% of the first 3% of your salary deferrals and 50% of the next 3% of your salary deferrals. To take advantage of the full company match of 4.5%, you must contribute 6%.

If you are contributing 3%, per the policy below they are contributing EXACTLY the same amount of money that you are. ($62.67/month)

Before tax means that you haven't paid taxes on the contribution, and if you withdraw it prior to being old you will have to pay taxes and a penalty to withdraw it (i think the penalty is 10%). Either way, you'll have to pay taxes on everything you put in at some point.

If you contribute it on an after-tax basis (that's what I'd recommend if you are young), it's easier to pull out if an emergency comes up. And when you pull it out (including the gains) it's all tax-free (because you already initially paid taxes on the money).
If you can get by on it, it would be a good benefit for you to contribute another 3% -- so that they'll give you more free money. If you can swing another $62.67/mo, then they will give you another $31.33/mo ($376.02 more free money per year).

Your company might penalize you for early withdraws as well (mine stops matching for awhile). So make sure that you really need to pull it before you pull it (you can also take a loan against 50% of it too in most companies if you need it -- so that's also an option worth considering if you hit a rough spot).
