401k investing? Advice from non-paid, bias expert. Not linked with a firm and wants % of my portfolio? I have a 401k and investing thru ML. Anyplace I can invest and do away with the fees and costs of having at a large company who is out to make money themselves? I am 42, and want to get the most for my 401k. |

my suggestion, do not hold too tight to your $ and Give a chance to large companies out to make $ cox the best you can make out of is a win-win situation. bear in mind though to look at the ROI and credibility

Go to bestmoneyinfo.com for great information about which funds to invest in. You can roll your money into an IRA almost anywhere. Scottrade ect.

In a 401k you are stuck with the company plan. Can't just go off by yourself. Can have a Roth IRA also if don't make too much. Could put that at schwab.com & do what you want. Some great values avail now like total return plays like SNH almost yielding 6% & likely to grow 8-10% or so on top.

If you're investing at ML then you have large fees if you're in ML Funds. Avoid those....the performance doesn't outweigh the expense ratios. Depending on your age, it probably makes sense to find the index funds and go with those. Those typically have the lowest expense ratios.
Don't kid yourself...all of the companies are in it to make money for themselves. ML just happens to have huge overhead and high profit expectations.
