Where do I hire a lawyer?

My daughter was living with her husband in north carolina. He was abusive and she filed for divorce and moved back to texas to live
with me, her dad, Joe. She reached a settlement but nothing
was signed because she was killed in a head on collision while driving her mustang here in waxahachie, texas. now her husband
wants her 401K, her auto settlement, her last paycheck, and her
life insurance policy. The divorce was to be final in november. do I need to hire a lawyer here in texas or get one in north carolina. she
was almost 30 years old and her husband is 46. they were married
almost 4 years. al least 2 incidents of abuse can be corroborated
by the athorities. she was in the process of getting her name changed back to her maiden name. I was told to hire a probate lawyer. Is this correct?

This is going to be an up hill battle. I would talk to as many attorneys as possible in both states, the first meeting is normally free and once you have talked to them they can't legally talk with the husband. Did she have a will? A probate attonery may be your best option. Godspeed

Do this with eyes wide open and don,t get fooled or pressured when it comes to $$$$$$ they,ll tell you the lawyers line (standard with all ) Well this is not going to be easy,or This is pretty serious you know .They do this to have you think that what they want in $$$ is worth it and you,ll be nervous enough to pay big money so best advice is ask someone close to you that you trust if they have had one that they feel is trusting.Good Luck
