What happens to 401k dollars if there is no beneficiary listed? How does a spouse collect 401k dollars if no beneficary is listed on a 401k plan? |
Answer 1/1 - Submitted 3/16/2009
On a 401 (k) unless the spouse signed off ... they are automatically the beneficiary... there is no option to have another beneficiary if married, unless the spouse signs and has notorized the authority to assign another.
If there is no spouse, and no beneficiary... it gets paid to the estate.
