Should my fieance and I get married sooner for Tax savings?

My fiance and I have been together 10 years and are in no rush to get married. She has worked very little tis year and has made less then $5000. I earn a large salary. Would there be any tax benifit of us getting married before the end of the year?

I imagine you would get a benefit of being to filed as married. But wouldn't she rather have a planned wedding 6 months or something in advance instead of just getting married on the spot with a week notice to save a little bit of money?

You would get a larger standard deduction, but that's not a very romantic story. I'm with Sid on this one.

You would get a tax benefit if you do get married before the end of the year

but i agree with sidelko, you would have a more romantic wedding if you waited till you were both ready and the 6 months to plan it.
