Retirement plans

Is it now a requirement that employees have to contribute to a retirement plan?

This is a benefit offered by employers, and it is never a requirement to have a retirement plan. However, if the employer has a define benefit plan, the employer is required to fund the plan. An actuary will calculate the liability and the required contributions.
