Lost 2006 W2s, and can I file 2 years' worth of tax forms at the same time? I could not afford to pay my taxes last year and filed for a 6-month extention. In the meantime, the individual who promised to do my tax forms will not contact me and I suspect they lost my W2s. One was from a 401K withdrawal and I want to start paying that before I rack up anymore fees. The problem is, I no longer have the documentation from the 401K withdrawal and do not know how to go about getting it. Can I guess about the amount I received? Must I have an actual W2 in order to file?

I suggest contacting your employer(s) and request W2 copies for the years you are missing as well as the administrator for the 401K and request the required information, they should have record of the transaction. You dont need to send in the actual W2 but you are required to keep your tax records for 7 years after filing and guessing isnt the greatest idea. You cant file a single return for both years but you can file both returns on the same day. You could file your 2007 return then later file your 2006 but its not the proper protocol. Good Luck!

You can get a print another w2 and 401K statement of income reported from your job. If they cannot find it or are out of business any local irs office can provide a copy. And although you cannot file 2006 and 2007 together, once irs receives both returns they will credit funds from overpayment to prior year less any penalties, interest and fees.
