Question

Asked 3/26/2009

I was laid off on 1/26/09. I still have not received any information from my former company on my 401K.

Is there a legal time frame in which I should have the info? Thanks in advance.

They may not contact you if your balance is over a certain amount.. Just because you no longer work for the company does not mean you MUST withdraw your 401(k)... If you want to close or move it, contact the administrator... the company in most cases will not do this for you.

Answer 2/3 - Submitted 3/26/2009

They are unwilling to provide me with the contact name and number of the administrator....
And all the paperwork I have ever received has been very vague in this manner.
thanks for your help!

Your statement should show some company's name on it.. If you ask for an SPD (summary plan document) legally they must provide you with one.. (it will show the administrators name)
