Question

Asked 10/28/2009

How do I find out if I have 401K money from previous employers & do not have their current contact information?

Do I have to find each employer & ask, or is there a site to find this info?

You will probably have to find each past employer and ask their HR department. There is no central internet database with this information.

Since 401k contribution information is also reported to the IRS, you may be able to get further information from them. However, they may only be able to tell you the amounts deposited, and not account numbers.

You'll probably have more success if you contact the HR departments of your previous employers. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I wasn't sure if the IRS would have any information on it to help me track them. That should get me started. Please let me know if you have any further ideas to assist in my search.
