Question

Asked 2/26/2010

How do I claim my 401k contributions from a previous employer who is no longer in business?

In 1990 I worked for Mountain View Hospital in Spokane, WA. I worked there and contributed to a 401k plan for 2 years and then quit. I did not get a distribution after leaving. Since then the hospital has closed it's doors and I am not listed on The states Unclaimed Property website. How can I get that money back?

Contact the plan's administrator and ask. Did another company take over the hospital? If so you may have been suffled into the accounting. If no one can find your account or the money you deposited, you may have to turn it over to the district attorney.

The hospital no longer exists and I do not recall the company name that administered the plan. What information would the district attorney need in order for this to be successful?
