Can your employer start an employee on a 401k if they never signed up for one?

I have been advised that a new law is allowing employers the right to set up employees onto a 401k plan without direct written or electronic permission from the employee.

Automatic enrollment is allowed, usually starts at 3% deduction from pay... You should have received a letter allowing you to opt out of contributing.. which you can do at any time.....You state 401(k) I assume it is not regarding a prevailing wage plan, which differs.
