Can I transfer pension funds from the UK to a 401k in the US? I have a stakeholder pension scheme in the UK. I was told that I could transfer it into a 401k in the US but all efforts have proved fruitless so far. Does anyone know how this may be possible? Thanks. |

Mingmong: no you cannot - the problem is that you can cash in a 401k and British pension schemes do not like this - I've got an old scheme from a local authority in the UK and spent several months researching - there simply isn't a legal way to do it - sorry! The only option that seems to be available is to transfer it into a similar scheme in the US that cannot be dispersed....
