401k Hardship withdraw

I am currently employed and have a sizeable 401k. I was interested in withdrawing the entire balance as a hardship for the purchase of my firstresidence. I am aware of the taxes, etc. When attempting to do so I was told that the plan is governed by my employers rules and their rule is that I can only take a hardship withdraw on funds that have been in the account more than 24 months. What can I do?

Sounds like you are not fully vested. Leagally you should be able to drawn any funds you are already vested in as well as all of your contributions and gains attributed to those contributions. Many companies require being at a company and you vest after x number of years.
