It is realy sad that everyone had to depent on these thing to even get through life if some one would realy get into office that gave a damn about people instead of their own ajenda then we might have some hope, but everyone is thinking that he (obama) is the next god or something. this gut is out for himself and his political puppets and that is it
Answer 6/77 - Submitted 1/19/2009
It is also sad the way you think, not every one in this world or in office is out to get you. Maybe you have been around a lot of bad people in your life, and that's why you sound so negitive. You can't please every one because some one is going to find a reason to be unhappy . No one is proclaiming (Obama) as being God, only you are . It seems that you have a lot of hate in your heart.
I am sure you will not throw or give your stimulus check away .
Answer 7/77 - Submitted 1/20/2009
The fair tax would be better than any stimulus program. you would get your entire paycheck, if you work, the price of goods and services would drop the amount of embeded taxes, and the government would have more money to spend. Its a win/win, except for hookers, drug dealers and others whopay no taxes now. Check out this linke http://2009stimuluscheck.net

I bet you voted for Bush also but that doesn't matter anymore, Obama is the president. I felt like at least half that 700 billion should have went to the people anyway because then we would be putting that money back in the economy anyway. I'm not sure about another simulus check but I'm broke now so nothing is better nothing is worst just the same.

I am 26 and I have something to say. look remember this, the next time you go outside look up and start thinking...The only thing about a man that is a man is his mind.....everything else you can find in a pile of crap. 95% of who you are is summed up in your thoughts. So what you think about most of the time makes you who you are. are you a follower and do what you see or do you become your true potiental?
Do you honestly believe that one man can cause this huge problem....Instead of using what was given to us free (our minds) we became a society that believes the more we have (money and toys) the more successful we are. How wrong can this be? When was the last time you spent your extra few dollars left over from bills and food on making yourself smarter than last year. setting goals for yourself instead of playing follow the leader everyday, trying to be the croud. everywhere you look someone is glued to there phones, tex measaging, playing video games, and conversing over who knows what. instead of paying for useless crap start thinking become your own think tank . Did you know you can change a room full of people just by your attitude alone.
Simply this start thinking about ways to help imporve the enviroment... start thinking of ways make someones life better ...and stop thinking about what you can get out of it.....because thats how we got this B/S in the first place.
Answer 13/77 - Submitted 1/24/2009
So let me get this straight. Most of you here want hope? Agree the economy stinks. What's a stimulus check gonna do? Give you money to go buy a TV thats made in China? Or clothes made in Mexico. That's not stimulating America, but other countries. The problem is the American people and corporate Greed. We have been brainwashed to consume and buy material goods. And we've been dumb enough to fall for it while getting beat out by other countries. Rome fell from within, and we're on that track. Stimulate that.

There is No Economic Stimulus Check For Planned for 2009.
Those stimulus checks handed out last year (2008) did very little to help the economy and it is VERY likely that Obama will not include individual Stimulus Chckes for the 2009 year.
So as of now, do not expect to receive any Stimulus Check.
Answer 18/77 - Submitted 1/30/2009
Well, I see it like this. Bush was the one who signed the bailout so his friends would not go under before he left office (remember), so don't blame Obama for his mistake because Bush has made plenty. Anothr thing Obama didn't get us into this mess he's just coming in to fix the mistakes that YOUR President has made.
Answer 19/77 - Submitted 2/2/2009
Do you really expect Obama to be able to change a thing even if he wanted to? Any President (Republican or Democrat) says what people want to hear to get elected and then turns around and does what he needs to do to keep big corporations in his pocket. No president stimulates real change. As for the 800 billion bailout. How is putting that much money into the pockets of big exects going to help America? Is any of that money going to the small individually owned companies? If Americans are losing jobs or suffering from cut wages how can we afford to spend to stimulate the economy. All the bailout is going to is is make the rich richer and the poor poorer for having to cover the 800 BILLION

I think it's funny how everyone thinks this "stimulus check" we're looking for is going to help our economy. look at it this way. Mill towns, for example, housed their workers, paid their workers, insured their workers, BUT, the money these workers made, went back to the company stores, company pharmacies, company doctors, et cetera. This did nothing but make the mill owners richer and the mill workers poorer, because they had to buy from mill owned property. If you think about it, all we're doing is giving this money back to the people who gave it to us in the first place. What good is it doing us to get a check if it goes right back to the government? No good, if you ask me.

TurboTax seems to think so. I don't know when we'll receive the money but they indicated that my wife and I would, most likely, get about $1200. Indeed, they made a clear distinction between the refund from last year and the stimulus check I should expect. Of course, I must mention that I don't know if the government spending money it doesn't have is a good idea but, unlike a lot of other people here, I figure I should attempt to answer the question you asked to the best of my knowledge. I guess that, before you ask your next question, you should remember that everyone on the internet sits in judgement!

I have been hearing two different answers to whether or not we'll be recieving a "stimulus check" this year . But i would sure love to get it . i was reciently laid off (two days after christmas) am recieving unemployment while i search vigurously for another job. My unemployment is a joke (157.00) a week . mother of 4 . by the time i do find another job ill either be so far in debt and probably homeless. a stimulus check sure sounds good right about now. All this talk about a "bail out" WHERE THE HELL IS MY BAIL OUT"

The stimulus plan is desperately needed but a significant amount should go directly to the american people. Another stimulus check would greatly help during these tough times. I advocate for a stimulus check in 2009, and hopefully a greater amount than the check in 2008.

If anyone in Washington DC was worried about the people who really need a stimulus check , they would have issued the people that are losing their homes a check instead of the banks that knew they couldnt afford them to begin with. That way the poor people and the banks would have benifited but our government is for the rich. I wouldnt hold my breath while I was waiting on a stimulus check
Answer 34/77 - Submitted 2/13/2009
Banks were allowed to charge outragous intrest, put people into adjustable mortgages knowing they could barley afford it before the adjustable. Giving credit cards to people who cant pay thier bills..and most people take those loans and credit cards because they have no choice..Banks were allowed to go on and on...Places like citifinancial getting lists of "credit risks" from banks and sending people that have so many financial problems instant approvals for $5,000, maybe $10,000 loans...and people are so desperate they take them at almost 30%..try to use that to get out of debt but then can't pay the loan..If this behavier was stopped by the banks a long time ago, maybe they wouldn't have needed a bailout..because maybe they would have given financing to people that could actually pay it..So now everyone gets a bail out..banks, car manufacturers (that should have been building afordable cars, better on gas, years ago) They all get the money..when they caused the problem..Not fair....maybe credit card intrest rates should be re-adjusted...more loans re-adjusted..then maybe people could pay thier bills and banks would get money and maybe more cars sold..I know I am one of these people..due to a medical situation...I became in debt..and now can't get out..the first stimulus did help us a little and like most people we paid some back bills..but even the money that was spent mostley went to the electronics industry..and most of that (those nice LCD TV's)comes from china..The people need real help! Either a larger stimulus...or..a larger tax credit in our weekly pay..Something that will really make a difference..If not..I really don't see things changing much...And from everything I've read there is no stimulus check for us..just a small tax credit in our pays... :(

Answer 36/77 - Submitted 2/13/2009
You are right..not only that is it less than what they're going to spend....the money would end up going to the banks and into the economy anyway..people would pay the bills they cant pay now..and..then the people would be out of debt and spend more...So, they would end up getting thier money with out being bailed out..Thats why I said we should get a large stimulus...even if it's not a million..enough to make a difference...

Yes.. we all will receive stimulus checks. In the current bill there is a provision for 2.3 billion in stimulus money. We will start to receive these checks as soon as April 1st. Parker Brothers as been commissioned to produce all the checks, to avoid counterfeit these checks will be printed on the latest hybrid paper consisting of mostly rubber. The amount has increased to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for couples, plus $3,500 for every child, and $500 for dogs. The biggest change to the checks is replacing the Statue of Liberty with Cadbury and Bascomb. Remember help is on the way, keep checking your mailbox.

Millions of workers can expect to see about $13 extra in their weekly paychecks, starting around June, from a new $400 tax credit to be doled out through the rest of the year. Couples would get up to $800. In 2010, the credit would be about $7.70 a week, if it is spread over the entire year.

What ever happened to taking personal responsibility for oneself and working hard for your rewards in life. If you buy a house for $250K, drive a BMW, own a motorcycle, own a boat, own an RV and can't afford to pay for it....TUFF! Don't make stupid life decisions. You reap your OWN consequences in life! You should evaluate what your annual income is and how secure your job is before you ever bought any of the items mentioned above. I'm so sick of people wanting the government to bail them out of all their SELF-IMPOSED problems. GROW UP and stop acting like whinny children. And you know who I'm talking to, all those out there who feel like they are "owed" something. GET A JOB, GO TO SCHOOL, stop being a dead beat to society.

Unlike the 2008 Stimulus checks under the Bush Administration, there will be no Stimulus Checks for the 2009 Stimulus Bill that Obama signed.
The relief for people this year is coming in the form of a tax rebate, enough that will add $500 to someone’s take home pay over the course of the entire year. As opposed to the Bush check that gave up to $600 dollars per person and $300 per minor to every person in America.
The core of the Stimulus bill is to ensure that there are jobs available for upgrades to infrastructure. Like the $120 Billion set aside for “Shovel Ready” Highway and infrastructure projects. (”Shovel Ready” means projects that could start within 2 months of receiving money from the Stimulus Bill).
The rest of the prime incentives for the American people are for those on Unemployment who will see there benefits extended through the rest of 2009 and getting a helping hand to pay for Cobra to make sure that they have health insurance while they are looking for work.
@Direct Cash Payments
Give a one time $300 payment to Social Security recipients, poor people on Supplemental Security Income, and veterans receiving disability and pensions.
@Taxes Credit for Individuals
Providing a $500 per-worker, $1,000 per-couple tax cut for the next two years. Those who do not make enough money that require them to pay federal income taxes could file returns next year and receive checks in the mail instead of the $500 or $1000 credit.
Sparing about 23 million taxpayers from paying the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) in 2009. This change would save a typical family of four an average of $2,400.
Increase in the earned income tax credit area for families with at least 3 children.
Providing greater access to the $1,000 per-child tax credit to make it more accessible for the working poor in 2009 and 2010.

The primary highlight of the stimulus bill is the $7,500 credit new home owners get for buying their first home. This has to be paid back if the property is sold in less then 2 years. This could go up to $15,000 if the Senate has it’s way.
The other benefits from the stimulus bill are:

I read a lot of the comments posted on this site and to be honest with you I am sick to see some of the posts! So what if Obama made a promise he couldnt keep, guess what... HES HUMAN! Noone can keep their promises all the time. Even if people think that he made the promise to get in office. Its a dog eat dog world! Tell me none of you wouldnt promise something you werent 100% sure you could deliver if it meant you could benefit; if you say no you're a LIAR! People step on people all the time for personal gain and promotions and such. Besides if YOU personally cant fix your problems what makes you think that one man can fix the nations? Its pathedic! The economy going bad is everyones fault in one way or another, no one person is not responsible than the next. Instead of looking for constant hand outs, focus your energy trying to figure out how to stimulate your own bank accounts on your own. America is supposed to be the "land of opportunity", we are supposed to be the big brother to other countries.... role models of sorts. What do we look like being the strongest country in the world and yet are too weak to make our own way? Dont get me wrong, I know the economy is horrible right now and there are people who are seriously in trouble, but instead of pointing the finger at Bush and Obama; try pointing it at all the people who are REALLY to blame for the economic plumit... like people who are stealing from the tax payers.... the unemployed who STAY on unemployment when they are fully capable of working, people that get food stamps that REALLY dont need them, people that just dont pay taxes all together! Stop getting mad and expecting a single man to fix problems that we all help to cause and insisted on ignoring! This is just all of our past (at one point or another) coming back to bite us all at simultaneously!

I have done some digging and I have found what many other people have found in regards to this question. People currently receiving Social Security or Disability will receive a check of $250. Everyone else (who grosses less than $250,000) will see a reduction in their payroll taxes which will amount to around $13 a payday. I can't figure out where the $13 dollar figure is coming from, but many different news and other websites quote this amount so I'm running with it.
The crux of the problem is not whether or not any of us will receive some type of "stimulus" or "bail out" check. The financial crisis that most Americans are facing (meaning those who have been laid off, lost their homes, gone out of business, etc) FAR exceeds the scope of what any stimulus check could provide. A $400 dollar check is not going to help someone who is 6 months behind on their mortgage, or a family of 5 with no source of income, or a recent college graduate who is $200,000 dollars in debt for their education, but can't even find a menial job. The sad fact is that ALL of the problems we are experiencing right now are a result of our obsession with excess. Keeping up with the Jones', so to speak. Sure, many people were coaxed into taking home loans they couldn't afford, but I also know a good many people understood PERFECTLY what the adjustable rate could mean, and they went ahead and bought the house anyway. They bought a house that was bigger and nicer than they could afford, and foolishly decided to pay "interest only" for the first several years. They didn't save. Many people didn't put ANY down payment on their homes. So many Americans have this startling and repulsive sense of entitlement. "If Bob at work has a 2,500 square foot house with a 3 car garage, pool, and basketball court then so should I!" I hope if anything comes from this crisis, it is that people learn to LIVE WITHIN THEIR MEANS. You don't need the Prada boots, or the Louis Vuitton purse, or the Tiffany necklace, especially if you're CHARGING these things and not paying your house payment. Learn to have some self-control, enjoy the small things, and stop trying to impress everyone else. Your finances and your life will magically become much, much simpler.

Since Congress passed the economic-stimulus bill February 13, a lot of people have asked us how they will get their money. Some of the details will be worked out in the coming weeks, but here’s what we know so far.
How much will the “Making Work Pay” tax credit be?
The stimulus provides a refundable tax credit of 6.2% of taxable wages in 2009 and 2010, to a maximum each year of $400 for single taxpayers and $800 for married couples filing jointly. The credit begins to phase out for single filers with adjusted gross incomes of $75,000 or higher, or $150,000 for married couples filing jointly, and it disappears entirely for single filers with AGIs of $95,000 or more, or $190,000 for joint filers.
How will I receive the credit?
You’ll get the money through a reduction in income tax withheld from your paycheck, adding about $30 to $40 a month to most people’s take-home pay. After the IRS adjusts its withholding tables, employers will change their automatic withholding systems; you shouldn’t have do anything to get the extra money. The IRS says that most people should see the change in their paychecks this spring.

I have read quite a few of the comments on this subject. It totally offends me that people say those of us on Social Security Disability are just looking for a hand out. Let me explain something to you. People who recieve Disability payments, have worked enough, paid into the program and recieve a check based on the amount paid in. People who recieve Supplimental Security Income, have NOT paid in enough to recieve Disbility payments. I understand that probably about 85% of people who recieve either, are really abusing the system. For the other 15%, which is where i fall, has had some illness or injury that is above and beyond our control, we need some help. I have been working in clubs since i was 19... making very good money. I was the bar manager of the local country club when my back was broken last year. Seeing as how I am a single, indepentdent woman... I have no one to help and could no longer work or take care of my medical bills. I had to file for Disability. I am not looking for a hand out, I just needed some help. I have worked hard since the age of 14, starting off as a waitress in a chili dog spot. Believe me, I'd rather be working and making good money, but at this point... it's just not possible. Already have had 2 surgeries, another one on the way, nerve root and sacral injections every 4 weeks and physical therapy 3 x's a week. Now, do you think that all of that is great fun? Do you think I liked giving up a 1200 a month condo or my brand new Vue? No, it broke my heart. So before you judge people and act like they are the scum of the earth... think about the situation they could be in. You never know when you could be there too.
Answer 60/77 - Submitted 4/10/2009
This is great. So those of us that have to work out butts off just to pay our bills get a whole $15-$20 off our checks (which will probably screw us over when we file next year). I guess the ones that make more money get an even bigger tax break. It's never going to change. Make less money, get less of it. Make more money, get bigger breaks. Some of us can't help where we are born and the fact that we had no funding for school and it seemed impossible to take out student loans and pay them back. Some people don't have supportive parents to help them through college. I am 24 and just now in my first year of college and only because my husband is working his butt off to provide for our family of four soon to be five. I'd rather have the check like last year, I mean $240 vs $900 (wasn't married at the time). This sucks.
As far as Obama making promises, well, that's just life, People are only out to better themselves and will step on everyone else to get there. I don't expect the economy to get any better. I'm just waiting for Jesus to call us home and rescue us from this crappy place.
Answer 61/77 - Submitted 4/14/2009
We have no money because we buy from other country's this is why we have a big national debt. the reason is we support the foreign country's with our hard earned money. as for the rich you spend money on crap you don't need or use. like vacations home that sit vacant in other states and country's. and yes lets give the banks and auto industry more money to screw us out of. those big owners of these king company's are sitting at home with billions to millions in the bank living such a tough hard life. let us poor people play the roll of trading places (Eddy Murphy) movie and see if those corporate jerks can handle being broke. and Obama is going to stick in our behinds just like every other president has one way or the other as long as his family and friends stay wealthy.
yes we will get stimulus checks after we are dead.
this country has turned into a joke. We are the only country that pays taxes on top of taxes on top of more taxes?
the president can fly in high class have 300 body guards. spend millions of dollars for a day or 2 out on the town and who is paying it ? and nobody ever complains about all that money down down the toilet. besides don't we make our money? just make more of it its paper anyways with some numbers on it. i say run the printers at full force that will stimulate everyone.
Answer 62/77 - Submitted 4/16/2009
I am not for the presidency, nor am I against it. I am not a patriot for the US nor a communist - I am just a simple person looking at things from a realistic picture in all of this.
Everyone needs to remember that the value of the paper dollar is chiefly based on the bullion that we have in lockdown. If we dont have the bullion to account for the wealth of the paper that is floating around - the value of the dollar decreases steadily.
The US Treasury department can print all the notes that they want and distribute it to whomever they wish, but one must keep in mind that it does NOT substanciate the worth of the paper. By printing out billions or even trillions of notes - the value of this paper MUST have "its worth in weight of gold" ..
The problem to this country comes from a bankrupt government who OWES foreign countries repayment, who are now also struggling economically. Namely China. And when you have companies such as WALMART who are toppling the market with Chinese goods, instead of US goods - the US citizens start losing their jobs because their products are no longer in demand - there is no market for them because you can now go to WALMART, buy the same thing - at a cheaper cost.
Companies which support the importation of overseas products - unless they are a specialty store, need to be boycotted - they are the greatest threat and source of the US citizens loosing their jobs. At the same time the US government needs to stop paying these large corporations an incentive for sending US jobs to third world countries. I feel for the rest of the world, and for countries who are trying to do the same thing we are , "make a buck to survive" ... but this is shear and utter madness, and it topples EVERYTHING the US has worked so hard to accomplish..
Instead of going to war to fight and aquire wealth and growth, or for freedom - as we have always done, we are now handing our country over to these foreign markets on a silver platter.
It was NOT so , even 50 years ago.. The US needs to reclaim their soil again - STOP the investments externally, and bring this nation back into the stronghold it once was.

Obama is everyone's president now. So those that didn't vote for him should GET OVER IT! He is not going anywhere anytime soon. What you disgruntled people need to do is to take some of that negative energy and use it to support the person that's controlling our country, whether you like him or not. Like he said, it's time for a change. Change is here. We need to support each other instead of criticizing each other. Furthermore, if you think you could have done a better job, maybe you should have ran for president. Obama has not been in office long. Things take time. He can not work miracles, only God can. Have patience and give him time.

While I'm glad that social security recipients got their $250 stimulus check, I feel pretty gyped. I'm a taxpayer who works a full time job. I'm also one of those people, like all of yourselves, who is paying for the war we didn't actually ask for. I don't feel that it's fair to not give another check to all of us who pay into it and file our taxes yearly. Social Security recipients, our nation's elderly and disabled, deserve the money of course. However, we're all out here doing our part...........when will we be rewarded for what we do?

Reading all the comments from so many sheep, it's no wonder the economy is in the state it's in. You're all willing to just lay back and take whatever they hand you. Thank goodness lemmings like you were small in number during WW2 or we would all be goose stepping and speaking german right now.

The second part of the 2009 stimulus check is a tax rebate that amounts to $400 if you are single or $800 if you are married over the course of 2009. Starting in April 2009 the government is lowering the taxes withheld from your paychecks to the amount of about about $20/week so that over the course of the year it would amount to $400 (or $800). This is the only 2009 stimulus check that is available to those that are working. The 2009 stimulus check is essentially a $400 check paid over the course of the year.
