2009 401K limits have not been established yet and won't be for another year. As for 2008 the max contribution is the lower of these two: A. The max percentage contribution limit allowed under each of your employers' plans, or B. $15,500. If you make $60K/year and your employer's max contribution percentage is 10%, then you max contribution limit is $6K.

Answer 2/6 - Submitted 11/12/2008

In 2008 it was $15,500

so 2009, it may be the same or slightly higher, but 15,5 at the very least

Answer 3/6 - Submitted 1/26/2009

For 2009 it will be $16,500
with catch up contributions @ $5500 if you are over 50----

Answer 4/6 - Submitted 6/6/2010

15500

Answer 5/6 - Submitted 2/14/2011

In 2008 the amount was set at $15,500, but they upped the maximum contribution for 2009 to $16,500. If you are 50 years of age or older, then you are eligible for catch up contributions that allow an extra $5,500 bringing the total to $22,000. I hope you find this information useful.

Answer 6/6 - Submitted 7/1/2011

It turns out that these numbers remain the same as 2009 for both 2010 and 2011 as well. The maximum is still $16,500. The catch-up contribution limit is $5,500 if you are at least 50 years old by the end of 2011.
