Fiduciary question As a fiduciary, we have a duty to not provide investment choices that have excessive risk. When current conditions adversely affect an investment option during the plan year, should we reconsider that option?

Answer 2/2 - Submitted 12/8/2011
A Fiduciary means "putting your client's interests ahead of your own." Since (your firm) has already chosen not to include certain investment options that are ordinarily considered excessively risky, the next step is to look at each individual client's risk tolerance and investment objectives to decide whether to continue investing in choices that may not be called for at this time. I am assuming that you are managing the money directly (AUM), so please revisit your client's profile in addition to your firm's investment policy statement (IPS) to determine whether to re-allocate your client's portfolio.
