Can you use a stop loss order on 401k account?

I know you can use the stop loss order on stocks, but not sure if it can be used on 401k also. thanks

If your 401k is in a brokerage account, so that you can trade stocks, you can use a limit order. You cannot, however, use margin in a retirement account.

I don't think so, because you don't have direct control over them.

Answer 3/3 - Submitted 12/16/2008

It all depends on how it is set up. Most 401ks justs allow you to put your money in a fixed selection of mutual funds, and money market funds. You can certainly have a brokerage account if they let you.

Maybe the original question was something different. Perhaps it should be explained more fully.
